A distinctly decorative floral composition in gouache on card. Open carnations and buds in red, pink, yellow, orange and violet are arranged against a uniform black background, accompanied by green stems and leaves that give the scene its vertical structure.
The absence of a vase, table or any spatial reference moves the work away from traditional still life and towards ornamental painting. The flowers seem almost suspended against the dark background, which intensifies their colours and accentuates the composition’s graphic character. Small successive brushstrokes build the petals, while stems and leaves are rendered with a more continuous, dynamic stroke.
The signature and the tradition of floral painting
The work is signed “Amigó” in the lower right corner. The composition belongs to the tradition of decorative floral painting, with particular attention to the colours of the flower heads and their contrast with the dark background.

The Taller Note
The flower heads form a vertical band, while narrow leaves and buds spread to the sides. The petals have serrated edges and small light brushstrokes that separate the successive layers of each flower. The black background remains visible between the stems and around the group; these spaces distinguish the silhouettes and the changes of colour from one flower to another.
