Lithograph on paper signed and dated in 1980 by an artist identified as “Antoni”, whose surname cannot be read with certainty. The work is titled in pencil “L’Arbucet” in the lower right margin.

The work

Panoramic view of L’Arbucet, a small settlement belonging to Vilanova d’Escornalbou, Tarragona. The landscape is developed in a horizontal format, with the houses concentrated in the central area and surrounded by vast stretches of land.

The image is constructed using a granular texture and a practically monochrome palette, characteristics consistent with the lithographic technique. The treatment of the sky, the vegetation, and the terrain produces a soft and vibrant atmosphere, while the limited presence of architecture accentuates the feeling of spaciousness in the landscape.

The work also holds documentary interest as a representation of this small settlement in the Baix Camp region at the beginning of the 1980s.

Author

The signature clearly shows the name “Antoni”, but the surname is not clear enough to make a reliable identification. For this reason, the work is cataloged only by the legible name.

An interesting graphic landscape work, resolved with great economy of means and a very evocative atmospheric treatment. The choice of L’Arbucet as a subject also adds an attractive local and documentary component.
