Oil on canvas, signed and dated in the year 2000 by Antonio Huerta Blanco (Valencia, 1953), a Spanish painter linked to the figurative and landscape tradition, trained at the School of Arts and Crafts of Valencia and with an exhibition history in Spain and abroad.
The work depicts a lively urban scene in the Plaça Nova in Barcelona, in front of the old Roman towers that flank the entrance to Carrer del Bisbe, one of the historic access points to the Gothic Quarter. Both monumental structures, with their semicircular floor plans and large stone blocks, frame a narrow street that extends in perspective toward the characteristic neo-Gothic Bishop's Bridge.
The composition combines historic architecture with scenes of daily life. In the foreground, a worker leads a horse hitched to a transport cart, while various figures walk through the square. Among them, a couple walking away in the center and two male figures on the right margin stand out. The coexistence of the traditional carriage and the figures in contemporary attire gives the whole a particular genre character.
The artist uses a luminous palette of ochres, yellows, blues, greens, and pinkish tones. The stone surfaces are modeled through successive chromatic variations, while the reflections on the pavement add depth and a slightly humid atmosphere to the scene.
The marked central perspective draws the eye toward the back of the street, where the figures progressively decrease in size. The treatment of the architecture, the small windows, the balconies, and the decorative elements reveals a special attention to the monumental environment.
The painting constitutes a personal interpretation of one of Barcelona's most recognizable historic corners, combining an interest in architectural heritage with the narrative representation of urban life.

The Workshop Note
This work stands out for its combination of monumental architecture and genre representation. The presence of the ancient Roman towers lends a marked historical and local interest to the composition, while the horse-drawn cart and passersby introduce a narrative counterpoint.
The treatment of reflections on the pavement, the depth of the street, and the chromatic nuances of the buildings constitute its main pictorial attractions.
The two towers frame the street that extends toward the background. The cart in the foreground and the groups of pedestrians introduce different scales, while the reflections on the pavement link the figures with the tones of the architecture.
