A coastal landscape in oil on panel, focused on the light and stillness of a northern Spanish ría.
Painting stillness
Balbino Costa Cándamo, a Galician landscape painter and photographer from Vilagarcía de Arousa, brings the quiet of the northern coast to this panel. Instead of dramatic waves, the painting concentrates on visual silence and atmosphere.
His experience with black-and-white photography offers a context for the measured contrasts and subtle changes of light in the landscape.
Atmospheric perspective and colour
Rhythmic brushwork suggests high clouds reflected in the water, extending the sense of depth. Textured ochre rocks anchor the foreground, while distant hills dissolve into blues and pearl greys that merge with the sky.
