Small oil landscape by Daniel Pastor Torregrosa (Muro de Alcoy, 1919), a painter linked to the origins of commercial painting in Alcoy during the second half of the 20th century.

The composition depicts a riverside landscape with a small cluster of houses with white facades and reddish roofs in the background. The scene is framed by dark-foliage trees on the left and green vegetation flecked with yellow on the right.

The painting is notable for the fluidity of its execution and its ability to synthesize a complete landscape in an extraordinarily small format. The impasto brushstrokes of the vegetation contrast with the horizontal strokes of the sky and water, building a luminous atmosphere dominated by pale blues, greens, and earthy tones.

About the author

Daniel Pastor Torregrosa was born in Muro de Alcoy in 1919. He was one of the driving forces behind commercial painting in Alcoy and managed a workshop where several generations of painters were trained.

Researcher Rafael Calbo has documented his role in the development of this artistic activity during the 1950s, especially through the production of small oil paintings on boards, frequently executed in 5 × 7, 8 × 10, and 10 × 12 cm formats.

The present work is especially representative of that context due to its dimensions, its landscape theme, and its direct execution.

Workshop Note

A small painting of particular interest due to its relationship with the origins of commercial painting production in Alcoy. Its small format, close to those historically used by Daniel Pastor Torregrosa, and the vividness of its brushstrokes make this work a characteristic example of that Valencian artistic tradition.
