Original work by Ernest Ibàñez Neach created in 1997, titled “Camping.” Acrylic on paper, accompanied by a certificate of provenance and authenticity issued by the Galeria Indecor of Lleida in 2012.
The composition depicts a wooded landscape rendered through a language of strong expressive synthesis. Red and black trunks structure the scene vertically, while the treetops are resolved through large green, blue, and white brushstrokes. On the ground, pinks, yellows, oranges, and blues introduce a particularly vivid chromatism.
The work
Ibàñez builds the landscape using quick, thick brushstrokes, dispensing with naturalistic description in favor of rhythm, color, and structure. The blacks function as a graphic framework upon which the different chromatic masses are superimposed.
Although the title “Camping” points to a recognizable space, the representation leans toward abstraction: trees, paths, and possible structures are reduced to pictorial signs and planes of color.
Dated 1997, it belongs to the mature stage of an artist who had been conducting significant research into informalism, materiality, and pictorial experimentation since the sixties.
Ernest Ibàñez Neach
Ernest Ibàñez Neach was born in Lleida in 1920 and passed away in the same city in 2011. He was a prominent figure in the art scene of Lleida during the second half of the 20th century.
A disciple of Josep Benseny and also linked to Leandre Cristòfol, he developed a career characterized by constant experimentation. In 1953, he opened his own painting school and later served as a professor at the Cercle de Belles Arts of Lleida, an institution of which he was a co-founder.
In 1964, he participated in the creation of the Grup Cogul alongside artists such as Albert Coma Estadella, Víctor Pérez Pallarès, Jaume Minguell, Àngel Jové, and Albert Vives. His painting evolved toward a material informalism characterized by the exploration of textures, gesture, and color.
He received, among other recognitions, the Vilaltella Medal in 1972 and 1973 and the Morera Medal in 1996. His work is represented in institutions and public collections, including the Museu d’Art de Lleida.

The Workshop Note
A particularly interesting piece for combining a characteristic composition from Ernest Ibàñez’s mature period with perfectly documented provenance.
The Galeria Indecor certificate expressly identifies the title, date, technique, support, and dimensions, providing the work with a traceability rarely seen in pieces of this format.
“Camping” also showcases a particularly colorful facet of the artist, in which the landscape serves as a starting point for a virtually abstract construction based on gesture and chromatic intensity.
