A grid organises black organic forms against a light field. In this print by Hernán Ardila, dated 2003, a single reddish accent interrupts the continuity of the composition.
The grid and the forms
Lines divide the composition into rectangular compartments of unequal sizes. Each space contains one or more irregularly outlined forms: some are solid, while others have a central opening. Repetition establishes an order that changes from cell to cell.
Ink and paper
The combination of etching and drypoint brings together dark surfaces, textures and lines. The reddish accent in the upper right area stands out among the black forms. Broad margins separate the printed field from the light wooden frame, leaving the surrounding paper visible.
