Red bands, green sweeps and dark areas structure this abstract composition by Isabel Dartiguelongue. The curved stroke on the right contrasts with the more vertical planes in the centre and at the edges.

Planes of colour and movement

Olive greens and earth tones form a field of subtle variations, crossed by areas of red and dark brown. Some parts retain the direction of the brush bristles; others are more fully covered. Contrasts distinguish layers and paths without relying on recognisable figures.

Red and light spaces

Reds appear in the lateral bands and in small trails and splashes in the centre. Light areas interrupt the green sweeps and open up the composition. The broad curved gesture on the right introduces a different movement from that of the vertical bands.
