The partially hidden monument
Rather than describe the façades of Gaudí's Sagrada Família in detail, José Luis Barcelona submerges the church in dense mist. Only the characteristic pinnacles and three-dimensional cross emerge. The resulting view is intimate and dreamlike, with the concealed architecture inviting the viewer's imagination.
Atmosphere, colour and movement
Textured palette-knife work and lively brushstrokes in blue-grey tones suggest humid, dense air. Against this cool palette, a warm coral accent marks the centre of the cross.
Seagulls in the foreground interrupt the monument's stillness. Thick white impasto gives them relief, depth and scale, bringing lightness and flight in contrast to the partly hidden stone.
