MAITE GONZÁLEZ | STILL LIFE WITH CYCLAMES | INTIMATE REALISM | LINOGRAPH (UNIQUE COPY 1/1)
An exercise in domestic serenity captured in a unique and unrepeatable edition, where graphic technique is put at the service of botanical delicacy.
HISTORY AND CURATORIAL ANALYSIS
This work, signed and dated 2005 by Maite González, departs from the usual serial production of prints, venturing into the realm of the monotype or unique print. The numbering "1/1" in the lower left corner is key: the artist decided not to produce a multiple edition, making this piece of paper as singular as an original canvas.
The subject matter approaches the classic still life genre from a contemporary and refined perspective. The composition focuses on a pot of cyclamen—identifiable by the unique shape of their inverted petals—flanked by a wicker basket of fruit and a long-leaved plant in the background. What is interesting here is the treatment of line: while linocut is often associated with thick strokes and flat blocks of color, the artist has achieved a fine and detailed, almost calligraphic, incision reminiscent of etching.
Chromatically, the work is a study of warm, natural tones. A two-tone palette has been used, transitioning from moss greens at the base to golden ochres and siennas at the top. This gradation appears not mechanical, but rather the result of careful hand-inking, which accentuates the calm atmosphere and the handcrafted nature of the print.
WHY IS THIS PIECE AN OPPORTUNITY?
-
Total Exclusivity (1/1): In the world of graphic art collecting, "1/1" is the holy grail. It means that no other copies exist. You acquire the original matrix in its only physical form.
-
Botanical Trend: Botanical and naturalist illustration is booming in contemporary interior design. This piece brings that botanical freshness but with the refined patina of engraved art.
-
Delicacy of Format: Its contained dimensions (16 x 15 cm footprint) make it a "cabinet" piece, ideal for inviting close observation in a reading corner, a hallway or leaning against a bookshelf.
-
Paper Quality: The use of a high grammage paper with deckle edges (irregular edges) is observed, which denotes a choice of premium fine art materials.

THE WORKSHOP NOTE
We included this piece for a simple reason: exclusivity. In the world of printmaking, repetition is the norm, but this work breaks the rule by being a one-of-a-kind edition. It is, for all practical purposes, a unique piece. The gradient inking, which smoothly transitions from green to ochre, demonstrates an intention to create atmosphere, not just to print a drawing. It is a small, handcrafted work that offers far more value than its size would suggest.
Includes Collector's Dossier: This work is delivered accompanied by a technical sheet and historical context prepared and printed by El Taller del Coleccionista, certifying our research.
