A geometric interpretation of the symbolism of ancient America.

Raúl Conti (Argentina, 1931) explores Latin American identity through a dialogue between Indigenous heritage and Constructivism. Rather than traditional representation, he builds the figure through planes and edges, drawing on the avant-garde search for a universal visual language.

The figure is organised through planes and angular forms. Simplification and a totemic arrangement connect the composition with Pre-Columbian symbolism.

Oil on a smooth, rigid wooden panel allows precise edges. The brushwork is subordinated to form, with measured areas of colour seeking flatness and solidity and giving the work an almost sculptural presence.
