Life is an original composition by Rosa Yagüe Martín (Barcelona, 1947–2025), created using sgraffito and mixed media in relief on a rigid support. The work serves as an example of the artist's experimentation with the material possibilities of painting and her approach to the languages of sculpture and object art.
The composition is organized around large oval and circular forms containing symbolic elements related to nature. On the left side, a succession of wavy bands in bluish and greenish tones evokes water, while mountains and white shapes introduce references to the landscape and the sky.
In the center, an ear of wheat is represented through yellow and ochre volumes, a traditional symbol of fertility and growth. To its right, a large geometric sun unfurls triangular rays against a blue background, accompanied by concentric circles in orange and reddish tones.
The lower section is completed with a flower of pink petals and turquoise leaves, which introduces a new reference to the botanical world and balances the composition.
The work combines a careful geometric organization with a remarkably rich treatment of materials. The surfaces feature varying densities, incisions, reliefs, and textures, creating a play of contrasts between smooth areas and rough-finished zones.
The use of a warm palette, dominated by ochres, yellows, blues, and earthy tones, reinforces the organic character of the composition.
The title Life, inscribed by the artist herself on the reverse, allows the ensemble to be interpreted as a symbolic representation of natural elements and their processes of growth, transformation, and renewal.
