Print based on a composition by Salvador Dalí (Figueres, 1904–1989), titled Ideal Winter of the House, Palace, and Cottage, linked to the set of illustrations the artist created in 1964 commissioned by the Italian firm Manifattura Ceramica Pozzi of Milan for its 1965 calendar.

The composition features a fantastic architecture, conceived through a combination of geometric shapes, figurative elements, and surrealist-style strokes. In the center appears a structure with a triangular roof, small windows, and dark circular openings, surrounded by graphic signs, spirals, and schematic figures that transform the architectural scene into an imaginary universe.

The contrast between the precision of certain construction details and the spontaneity of the strokes is one of the image's main attractions. The lines extend, overlap, and dissolve into black and grayish washes, while the ample white spaces reinforce the lightness and movement of the composition.

The title, printed in Italian and Spanish in the bottom margin, refers to the domestic universe that inspired the original commission. Dalí approaches this theme through his particular surrealist language, turning an architectural representation into a space of free associations and dreamlike elements.

Historical Context: The Pozzi Calendar

In 1964, the Milanese company Manifattura Ceramica Pozzi commissioned Salvador Dalí to create six compositions to illustrate its 1965 calendar.

The project focused on the domestic environment and the representation of the house, although the artist was given wide creative freedom. The set is an example of Dalí's collaboration with the fields of design, advertising, and graphic arts during the 1960s.

This print reproduces one of the compositions related to this project. It is an offset print, distinct from an original drawing or an aquatint printed directly from its matrix.

Workshop Note

An interesting composition by Salvador Dalí linked to a documented project in Italian graphic arts and design from the mid-sixties.

We highlight his peculiar interpretation of domestic architecture, in which structural elements are combined with abstract signs and spontaneous strokes. The presence of the title in Italian and Spanish, along with the historical relationship with the Pozzi calendar, adds extra appeal to this print.

The work is sold as an offset print based on a composition by Dalí, without being attributed as an original drawing, original aquatint, or a copy personally signed by the artist.
