Depth of field and light
Salvador Pérez Bassols treats the subject through an Impressionist approach. The background crowd, wearing caps and waistcoats behind a rope, is rendered in simplified patches of earth colours, ochres and muted greens. This deliberately softer treatment directs attention to the foreground.
White impasto
Thick white oil paint defines the golfer’s shirt and trousers at the culmination of the swing. Raised brushstrokes in the clothing folds and highlights on the grass give the figure a tactile, three-dimensional quality. Rapid, assured gestures echo the force of the stroke.

The Taller Note
