A piece of pure energy. This original painting, dated 1990, shows us the most instinctive and liberating stage of Pedro "Perico" Fernández (Zaragoza, 1952-2016). After his legendary career as a World Boxing Champion, Fernández found a different ring in the canvas: a space to channel his inexhaustible energy, away from the spotlights and ropes, but maintaining the same visceral intensity that defined his life.

Curatorial Analysis

The work is an exercise in visceral expressionism executed using the dripping technique and action painting. The artist renounces figuration to focus on pure gesture and the fluidity of enamel. The composition is dominated by an intense blood red that spills, runs, and coagulates over a background of deep shadows. The inclusion of white circles, almost like targets or ghostly footprints, adds a visual counterpoint that breaks the chaos, giving the piece a hypnotic rhythm. It is a work that does not seek to be deciphered, but felt; a raw reflection of the tension, dynamism, and rawness that marked the life trajectory of one of the most charismatic and complex athletes in Spanish history.

Reasons for the collection

  • Historical Value and Memorabilia: It is an exceptional collector's item for those seeking a genuine signature that connects two worlds: elite sport and outsider or self-taught art.

  • Visual Strength: Its high-contrast chromatic palette (red on black/gray) and its gestural execution make it a piece of enormous decorative weight, capable of dominating any room with its mere presence.

  • Authenticity: The piece has an undeniable biographical load. It is the work of a man who, upon leaving boxing, did not stop fighting, he simply traded his gloves for a paintbrush.

The workshop's note

Rarely do we have the opportunity to offer a piece that so clearly transcends its own material nature. When observing these drips of red enamel, it is impossible not to see the echo of Perico's life: effort, impact, passion, and resilience. It is not just paint; it is the imprint of an unrepeatable personality. It is a piece destined for a collector who values both art and the stories behind the men who create them.
